Practice Areas

Martin Pecha specialises in tax law and administrative law.

In the field of tax law, he mainly represents clients in tax proceedings, including tax audits. During his practice, he has represented major Czech and foreign clients in highly complex tax-related cases where the additional tax assessment amounted to hundreds of millions of Czech crowns.

In administrative law, Martin focuses on proceedings before administrative courts, including proceedings before the Supreme Administrative Court. During his previous practice, he also gained experience in representing clients in disputes with the customs administration authority.

Martin also occasionally lectures at the Law Faculty of Charles University (Department of Financial Law and Financial Science).

Prior to joining Havel & Partners in 2022, Martin worked for almost 5 years in an international law firm, where he represented clients in tax-related disputes with tax administration authorities. He also gained extensive experience from his work at the international consulting firm Deloitte. In addition, Martin worked as a project manager responsible for business development of major Czech companies with international reach.

  • Comprehensive representation of clients during on-site inspections and tax audits before tax and customs authorities
  • Comprehensive representation of clients in appelate and court proceedings (both before regional administrative courts and the Supreme Administrative Court)
  • Negotiations with representatives of the Czech Ministry of Finance, the General Financial Directorate, and the General Directorate of Customs in addressing specific business cases
  • Advising companies operating in various sectors on measures to prevent possible tax evasion (VAT fraud) according to the CJEU’s case-law (Court of Justice of the European Union)
  • Participation in complex due diligence on both the sell-side and the buy-side
  • Assistance in setting up and providing for supplier-customer relationships
  • Tax litigation training and tax-deductible stress tests (e.g., marketing costs, R&D costs) for clients
