Jan Šamánek specialises in litigation and arbitration. Jan also has extensive experience in corporate law, including corporate acquisitions, real estate transactions, and advising clients in the information technology sector.

He gained his expertise in procedural and commercial law both through his LLM studies at the prestigious University of Michigan at Ann Arbor and in practice. Jan started his career at the Czech Constitutional Court as assistant to Vice-President JUDr. Eliška Wagnerová, and later he worked at the Court of Justice of the EU in the departments of the current President Koen Lenaerts and of Advocate General Ján Mazák. He represented the Czech Republic at the EU Council meetings as the chief director of the Department of International Law at the Ministry of Justice. 

Prior to joining our law firm, Jan worked for many years with international law firms and in private practice. In litigation matters he defended the rights of clients in all procedural positions.

  • advising on the sale of a Czech software start-up to a multinational company based in the Netherlands, including the creative establishment of a trust fund to manage the shareholder rights of the start-up’s founders in the holding structure
  • advising on the purchase of a shareholding in an IT company by the largest Czech web-portal and search engine
  • advising a major Czech producer of control systems for motor generators on the construction of a turnkey office building in the administrative centre of Prague
  • advising on the purchase of a unique complex of historical buildings on Hradčanské náměstí in Prague, including management of atypical aspects of financing
  • advising on the sale of an industrial property site in Prague without liability for defects in real property
  • representing a client in a dispute with the Ministry of Education regarding the surrender of a set of historical properties in Malá Strana
  • advising on a dispute over the ownership of a residential property in a premium location
  • advising on a dispute over breach of due diligence by the management of a company, including successful out-of-court settlement
